Ripping TR objects (TRNG)

From TRLE Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

This tutorial will describe how to extract objects from other TR games to the TRNG engine. This tutorial only covers objects that have compatible slots in the TRNG engine. For a list of compatible slots, see the List of TRNG object slots.

[edit] Copying

First of all, you must copy the objects in WADMerger. Load the TR level that contains the object you want and double click the objects to copy, or select the object and press the copy button.

For some objects you have to rename the slot manually. This is for example the case with the VEHICLE_EXTRA object from TR3. In case of the TR3 boat, the correct slot is RUBBER_BOAT_LARA, however the same object is also used by the quad bike, kayak, minecart and UPU. In that case, hold SHIFT when pressing the copy button. A dialog will show up and you have to select the slot yourself. Refer to the manual of the specific object (see List of TRNG object slots for all available manuals) if you are not sure to which slot you need.

[edit] Sounds

Some objects require additional hardcoded sounds to be copied into your wad. Refer to the manual of the slot for a list of required hardcoded sounds. If hardcoded sounds are requirered, you will have to add them with the sound manager.

Before you can copy sounds, make sure your wad has been converted to version 130. To do this, click the button Convert to v130 in the bottom left of the WADMerger window. After you have a v130 wad, open the Sound Manager by clicking the Sound Manager button in the Tools panel. At the top, select the tab from the game engine you are ripping the object from. Now browse the list in order to find the sounds you will need. Check the boxes before the sounds and then close the sound manager.
